Dom Turner & Jin Hi Kim
Dom Turner & Jin Hi Kim are an exciting cross-genre mix of avant-garde blues and jazz blended with stringed instrument traditions from Asia.
Jin Hi Kim is an internationally acclaimed innovative komungo (Korean fourth century fretted board zither) vir tuoso and a Guggenheim Fellow in Music Composition. She is known as a pioneer for introducing komungo to American contemporary music scene through her own extensive solo work in avant-garde, as well as cross- cultural free improvisation. Jin Hi is most known for her solo performances of the world’s only electric komungo with interactive MIDI computer system in her large-scale mulitmedia performance pieces.
Dom Turner is best known as guitarist/ vocalist, founding member and key songwriter of the iconic Australian blues group, Backsliders. Dom’s influences are many and varied – a blend of delta blues, piedmont blues, rock, dub and sounds of Asia. He is a highly regarded speaker on blues music and has guested on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) radio programs (including guest presenting Radio National’s ‘Music Deli’) and presented music workshops at festivals and in universities (both nationally and internationally).
In September 2016 the pair collaborated on a series of creative pieces recorded in New Haven, Connecticut to be released in early 2017.
